The route exits south from Pune climbing on a slow descent to Katraj tunnel and then climbs khambatki ghat, a 4 km ascent with a short descent on the other side. Turning off the highway soon after that, one is on a lovely country road heading to Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani hill stations. The route heads up Pasarni ghat, a 12 km gradual ascent to Panchgani. Depending on the time of year one may be greeted with juicy strawberries or equally juicy carrots on the top. In winter it can get very cold on top.
